Question
Every year as the holidays and the new year creep closer, I get such an uneasy feeling. I can't say that I dislike the holiday season, because I usually enjoy most of it - you know, the parties and the family obligations are okay. But for some reason, I feel overwhelmed and put upon. How can I change my mind set and rid myself of this strange dread? I'd like to look forward to the holiday season again (like I did when I was a child).
Answer
Many people have similar issues with the holidays and the new year. As adults (and I believe you're a young adult) we find that the obligations like gift buying, running from party to party, etc. can create a very heavy energy flow. It's a shame that the holidays add to our already over-burdened lives when they should be about sharing and joy. I feel that there is one easy regimen that may help you. You are a very organized person, and I suspect that getting too busy and out of control pushes many of your emotional buttons. Begin early in November to make a list of what you need to do and where you need to go. Stick to your list and add and subtract each day. Say "no" more frequently than usual - that can help you eliminate the maybe-I-should-go events and give you more time for relaxation. From a purely energetic perspective, find a bit of extra time for deep breathing exercises each day.
